The formal assessment program at Providence College began in 1999. Since that time, all College departments, programs, and units have endeavored to articulate intended learning and operational outcomes and to measure effectiveness using a variety of tools and methods. In addition, campus-wide data is gathered regularly and according to a master planning calendar using several commercial and self-developed instruments and methods.
Coordination of the assessment program is provided by the Office of Academic Affairs and the broadly representative Committee on Assessment Issues & Resources (CAIR).
