Collaboration & Creativity Define SPORT:ART

The College’s two-month celebration of SPORT:ART on campus continues through March 29.

The project presented by the Department of Art and Art History and the Department of Athletics opened on January 26 with receptions that showcased exhibits in the Reilly Art Gallery and the Hunt-Cavanagh Gallery. There also was a talk by Robert Cvornyek, chairman of the Department of History at Rhode Island College.

Other highlights have included a College community painting of a mural during Alumni & Family Weekend and lectures. One lecture featured Byron Motley, a filmmaker and photographer, who gave a multi-media presentation on “The Negro Baseball League: An American Legacy.” Another lecture was presented by David E. Little, curator of photography and new media at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, who spoke on “The Sports Show.”

SPORT-ART concludes with a “Women in Sports Film Festival” series and discussions on four Thursdays in March.
