Providence College has a Memorandum of Agreement in place with Day One - The Sexual Assault & Trauma Center for enhanced, PC-specific services to support survivors of sexual assault. Sara Eckhoff serves as the primary contact from Day One for Providence College.
As the VASE Coordinator for Providence College, Sara is available to speak and meet with members of the community who are seeking information and support on a confidential basis. The Coordinator can direct members of the community to professional resources of aid, care, and recourse both on- and off-campus. She assures, with student consent, that there are effective, consistent support and follow-up services. Sara may also serve as an advocate for PC students going through the criminal justice or community standards process.
Sara graduated with her B.A. in History from the University of Rhode Island in 2009 and her M.A. in Holocaust and Genocide Studies from West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 2014. She began her journey with Day One in 2015 as a volunteer advocate on Rhode Island's 24-hour Helpline (1-800-494-8100), serving victims of sexual assault and domestic violence throughout the state. She then became Training Coordinator with Day One and subsequently transitioned to a more direct-service role as Law Enforcement Advocate, serving multiple communities in South County. Most recently, Sara has started overseeing all of the Helpline volunteers as well as providing advocacy services to anyone reaching out to Day One. Sara is passionate about supporting and advocating for those who have been impacted by interpersonal violence and is excited for the opportunity to serve the Providence College community as VASE Coordinator.
