New Students

Whether you’re a business professional who wants more out of your career, a teacher who is certified in another state but interested in teaching in Rhode Island, or a recent college graduate seeking meaningful work, the Providence College Teacher Certification Program (TCP) can help you reach your goals through:

FAST TRACK TO CERTIFICATION in Biology, Chemistry, English, French, History, Italian, Mathematics, Physics, Social Studies and Spanish. The program also qualifies you to become certified in 46 other states.

If you have your bachelor’s degree, you may be able to earn your certification by completing as few as six education courses and student teaching.  If you don’t have your degree, you can enroll in SCE’s Liberal Studies program and earn your teaching certification while you complete your bachelor’s.

TCP courses are conveniently offered in the evenings and online throughout the year — during fall, spring, and summer semesters. You can choose among on-campus, online, and blended courses (which are a combination of on-campus and online learning).

At  $990 a course, the TCP provides tremendous return on your investment.  And there are many opportunities for  financial aid and scholarships.

You’ll find small classes with other motivated adult learners like yourself; outstanding faculty made up of current and former teachers, principals, and superintendents; and  personal attention and advising.

It’s easy to get started:

Dr. Hibbard brings over 35 years of teaching experience, both in public schools as a special educator and in teacher education at the college level. She also has experience as a college certification officer and can guide individuals through the in’s and out’s of Rhode Island’s teacher certification process.  She will meet with you one-on-one to discuss your goals, answer your questions, and assist you in applying and registering for courses.

You can take up to two courses before you decide whether you want to apply to the TCP.  It’s an excellent way to see if our program is a good fit for you.  You can view the course schedule and register here.

If you’re ready to apply, start your application here. The process is simple and you can apply when it’s convenient for you -- fall, spring or summer.
