Certificate of Religious Education (CORE)
The Certificate of Religious Education (CORE) program offers
professional certification for Catholic school teachers and administrators, and
parish catechists. This totally online program
curriculum was developed by the Providence College faculty and diocesan
teachers, administrators and directors of religious education, and is grounded
in four major components of the Catechism of the Catholic Church—creed,
sacraments, morality and prayer. These
components are augmented by the study of catechesis, which provides students with
effective tools to communicate the Catholic faith.
The CORE program consists of online classes conveniently offered
throughout the year, allowing students to participate anytime, anywhere. Students will advance their knowledge of
faith and catechesis, along with their technological literacy and teaching
methods. Depending on the type of certification,
students complete four to seven classes. Each class involves approximately ten hours of study -- including
readings, virtual lectures and online class discussions – and carries one
Continuing Education Unit (CEU) of credit. All grades are Pass/Fail. Upon successful completion of the required courses,
students are awarded the Certificate of Religious Education by Providence
College.
