PAN Laboratory: Providence College Affective Neuroscience
To ancient Greeks, Pan was known as the god of shepherds and their flocks. Passersby were said to be filled with dread and fear at his presence while they crossed the open countryside. It is from this that the modern word panic draws its meaning as the anxiety we feel in moments of stress.
It is appropriate that the PAN lab of Providence College investigates fear and anxiety. Since its founding in 2007, PAN has worked towards the better understanding of pathological fear.
