The Tradition of Hu
man Rights in Latin America

[welcome to the website documenting the fact that there is a distinctive Tradition of Human Rights in Latin America]

This website shows the specific Latin American contribution and influence on global human rights. Over the years, Latin America has been criticized as a land devoid of human rights and rife with torture and mistreatment of humanity. This website shows that the stereotype is not true; and that Latin America has indeed created its own tradition within the global discourse of Human Rights.

Also included here are the full text documents of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights put forth by the United Nations in 1948, and the Mexican Constitution of 1917, which was used along with Panamanian, Colombian, and Chilean submissions to draft the Universal Declaration; as well as two compelling articles making the case for the Tradition of Human Rights in Latin America.
