Summary Biography
      Edward L Cleary, O.P., Ph.D., is Professor of Political Science at Providence College and was Director of the Latin American Studies Program. Specializing in Latin American studies, as well as religion and politics, Professor Cleary has spent much of his professional career lecturing on these subjects at a variety of institutions in the United States and around the world (including the University of California at Berkeley, The Bolivian Institute of Social Study and Action at La Paz, NYU, and Yale University). While maintaining an active teaching career, Professor Cleary has also authored and co-authored several works including Resurgent Voices in Latin America: Indigenous Peoples, Political Mobilization, and Religious Change (2004), The Struggle for Human Rights in Latin America (1997), and Representing God at the Statehouse: Religion and Politics in the American States (2006).


Fr. Cleary will be on sabbatical leave during the 2007-2008 academic year.
