Summary Biography
  Paola Cesarini was born in Rome, Italy. Before coming to the United States on a Fulbright Scholarship, she lived and worked in several European countries. Most recently, she carried out extensive field research in Latin America. She is fluent in six languages.
Paola Cesarini's scholarship in the field of political science is both inter-disciplinary and cross-regional -- spanning from Europe to Latin America and the United States, from comparative politics to human rights, and from political economy to comparative historical analysis. Her current work includes a book exploring the connection between transitional justice and the quality of democracy, and a multi-year collaborative project on "Anti-Americanism in Comparative Historical Perspective".
Paola Cesarini is co-editor of the volume "Authoritarian Legacies and Democracy in Latin American and Southern Europe" (Notre Dame University Press, 2004), and co-author of an article entitled "Interdisciplinary Approaches to Human Rights Scholarship", due to be published in the November issue of the Journal of Latin American Studies. In the past, she authored a book chapter on institutional reforms in the edited volume "America Latina -- Prospettive e opportunitá negli anni 2000" (ISPI, 2000), and was chief editor of the Institute of Latin American and Iberian Studies (ILAIS) Newsletter at Columbia University.
  Paola Cesarini is an ABD in the Political Science Department of Columbia University, specializing in Comparative Politics, with a regional emphasis on Europe and Latin America. She also holds a Master in International Affairs from the same university. At Columbia University, Prof. Cesarini was a Fulbright Scholar, a Zuckerman Fellow, an International Fellow, and a President's Fellow. She also received research grants from the Center for Conflict Resolution, the Center for Historical Social Science, and the American Political Science Association. Prof. Cesarini earned her undergraduate degree in her native Italy, receiving, magna cum laude, a "Laurea di Dottore in Scienze Politiche" from the Libera Universita' Internazionale degli Studi Sociali.
  Before coming to Providence, Prof. Cesarini taught at Columbia, SUNY, NYU and Bentley College. She also worked with the United Nations, the World Bank, and Columbia University.
