Brief Biography

I did my undergraduate work at Western Washington University where I received a BA in political science. I received an MA from Arizona State University and my Ph.D from Kent State University. I have been at Providence College since 1976 except for academic year 1991-1992 when I was a Fulbright Scholar in Hungary. I served as department chair from January, 1995 to July, 1999. My research has focused on political behavior. I have published a number of articles and a book, PRIME TIME LAW ENFORCEMENT, on television and politics. I have also written extensively on political parties, elections, and political psychology. Most recently I completed a textbook (coauthored by Mark Hyde) entitled DOING EMPIRICAL POLITICAL RESEARCH. I teach courses on mass media and politics, electoral behavior, law and society, research methods, and American Politics.
