Leadership Development

The Center for Orientation, Transitions & Leadership helps student leaders build and refine skills that promote the growth and well-being of individuals and communities.

In addition to the programs highlighted below, the Center periodically hosts lectures and conferences, oversees the Student Leader of the Month program, and leads campus recruitment efforts for the annual College Leadership Rhode Island program.  Additionally, in collaboration with the Center for Career Education & Professional Development, each year the Center hosts the "CliftonStrengths for Students" first-year student workshop series, related to Gallup's CliftonStrengths® assessment. Workshops focus on helping students understand their individual talents, and how to maximize those talents (and the talents of others) in leadership positions, classroom and social settings, and their future careers.

Transformations Leadership Retreat

For first-year and sophomore students, we offer the fall Transformations Retreat - a program designed to help students get involved on campus, meet other student leaders, and foster development of their talents and skills. This annual event is hosted by a team of professional staff and upperclass student leaders, featuring workshops and team-building challenges, as well as downtime to connect with fellow students in a comfortable off-campus setting. A "Challenge by Choice" philosophy is utilized to encourage development at one's own pace. Activities are tailored to meet the differing needs and interests of students by class year.

Leadership Fellows Program

Providence College's Leadership Fellows Program assists students in becoming authentic, effective, and ethical leaders. Through a three-semester cohort-based model, sophomore, junior, and senior participants have the opportunity to connect regularly with peers, faculty and staff. The program's structure is composed of general meetings, the annual Rhode Island Conference on Values-Based Leadership, and a daytime Leadership Fellows retreat in Providence, each of which includes activities facilitated by community, business, and non-profit leaders.

Dirigo Leadership Honor Society

The Center for Orientation, Transitions & Leadership is proud to sponsor Dirigo, an honor society for students who have excelled as leaders throughout their college tenure. Students apply and are recommended as potential members during the fall of their junior year. A selection committee carefully reviews each application, and selects students representing the top leaders in their class.

The term dirigo is Latin for “I lead” or “I guide.” This honor will only be bestowed upon students with the strongest leadership background. A silver medal embodying the college logo, the Veritas flame, is awarded to each inductee during the spring of their junior year.

Additional information about Dirigo membership is available on the MyPC Portal.
