Library Honors 40th Anniversary of Women's Athletics at PC
Providence, R.I. — The Phillips Memorial Library at Providence College is hosting a display that celebrates the 40th anniversary of women’s athletics at PC.
The exhibit, located in the entrance foyer, features photographs and materials from some of the best and brightest female student-athletes in the College’s history, including basketball standout Doris Sable Burke ’87, ’92G, & ’05Hon., the 1990 BIG EAST Conference Women’s Basketball Championship Team, and Jacqueline Barto ’84, a multi-sport athlete who starred on the field hockey, ice hockey, and basketball teams.
In addition, there is a section dedicated to the late Helen Bert, who founded the women’s athletics program and served as the first assistant and associate women’s athletic director at PC.
In conjunction with the SPORT:ART initiative, a collaboration between the Department of Art and Art History and the Department of Athletics, several student photographs of PC’s current student-athletes are on display as well.
The exhibit will run through March 31 and is open to the PC community and general public.
