Student-Led Revue to Perform The Music and the Mirror February 10-12

Providence, R.I.--The Providence College Department of Theatre, Dance, and Film will present The Music and the Mirror: A Musical Revue during Alumni & Family Weekend on Friday, February 10, through Sunday, February 12.

Show times are 8:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday in the John Bowab Studio Theatre in the Smith Center for the Arts.

The Music and the Mirror, directed by Elizabeth Dennis ’12 (Bristol, R.I.) with musical direction by Matthew Cunningham ’12 (Brockton, Mass.), is a student-led revue based on the themes of identity and self-discovery. The production has no script, but rather relies on each carefully selected song to thread the script together.

The company of 19 male and female performers each will perform a different song that reflects a character who is struggling with his or her identity. While on their journeys of self-discovery, the cast will present songs of humor, tragedy, and romance.

The production is entirely student-led, from cast selection and direction to scene and light design.

“We as students are so used to being told what to do and how to do it, but with Music and the Mirror, Liz and I were able to design this show on our own. Since I am planning to pursue a career in music education, this production has been a great learning experience for me to grow and develop my abilities as a director,” Cunningham said.

In addition to the direction of Dennis and Cunningham, scenic and lighting design is headed by Ted Boyce-Smith ’11 (San Francisco, Calif.) with costume design by Erin Fusco ’13 (Foxboro, Mass.).

General admission tickets are $5. For more information, visit or call 401-865-2218.
