PC Poised for Academic ‘Face Off’ on NESN
Providence, R.I.-- Aiming to claim bragging rights as New England’s “smartest” school, Providence College will be featured in the AT&T Schooled: NESN’s College Face Off competition on Thursday, September 15.
In a taped segment scheduled to air at approximately 11:00 p.m., at the conclusion of the Boston Red Sox-Tampa Bay Rays game on NESN, PC will square off against the University of Connecticut in the opening, quarterfinal round of the single-elimination competition.
Representing PC are Allison M. Burg ’14 (Vernon, Conn.), Christopher J. Pedraita ’13 (Glen Cove, N.Y.), and Steven T. Fleming ’11 (Wakefield, Mass.). Burg is an applied physics major, Pedraita is a history and secondary education double major, and Fleming majored in global studies.
In conjunction with the broadcast, a viewing party will be held in McPhail’s in the Slavin Center beginning at 7:00 p.m. on September 15. The party will include a scavenger hunt with prizes provided by NESN, along with a DVD viewing of the PC-UConn match.
Sponsored by NESN, the regional television sports network, AT&T Schooled: NESN’s College Face Off pits three-member student teams from eight New England colleges and universities against each other. The competition, which is hosted by comedian Michael Showalter, tests students’ academic prowess and teamwork in pressured, time-sensitive situations.
PC, the only Rhode Island school selected, is competing with Boston College, Boston University, Northeastern University, the University of Connecticut, the University of Massachusetts, the University of Maine, and the University of Vermont. Tapings were held on campuses in the spring.
The semifinals will air on NESN on Tuesday, September 20, at 11:00 p.m. and Thursday, September 22, at 7:30 p.m. The championship match is scheduled to be broadcast on Friday, September 23, at a time to be announced.
