Men’s Soccer, Cross Country Teams Chosen for NCAAs

Providence, R.I.--The Providence College men’s soccer and men’s cross country teams have been selected for at-large berths in NCAA post-season competition.

The men’s soccer team will host Dartmouth College in an NCAA Championship First Round game on Thursday, November 17, at 1:00 p.m. at Glay Field on campus. The winner of the contest will visit 15th-seeded University of California-Santa Barbara on Sunday, November 20, in the second round.

The Friars, who finished the regular season with a 10-7-1 overall record and a 5-3-1 mark in BIG EAST Conference play, will be making their second consecutive NCAA appearance and fifth in the last seven seasons. PC is coached by Chaka Daley ’96.

The nationally 30th-ranked men’s cross country team will compete in the NCAA Championship on Monday, November 21, in Terre Haute, Ind. The Friars accepted an at-large berth after placing fourth of 33 teams in the NCAA Northeast Regionals Championship on November 12 in Amherst, N.Y.

The PC runners, who are coached by Ray Treacy ’82, the director of cross country and track operations, will be competing in the NCAA meet for the 16th time in 17 seasons.
