Advent Begins with 'Lessons and Carols'

Providence College began its celebration of Advent with “Lessons and Carols,” an evening of prayer and music which took place before a full house in St. Dominic Chapel on Saturday, December 1.

The event featured the combined voices of I Cantori, Concert Chorale, Oriana Women’s Choir, Liturgical Choir, and Schola Cantorum, under the direction of Dr. Todd J. Harper, assistant professor of music, and Sherry Humes Dane, director of liturgical music in the Office of the Chaplain/Campus Ministry, who played the organ. James Brodeur ’14 (Forestdale, R.I.) was the guest conductor for “O Holy Night.”

Lessons were read by Heloise Dubois ’16 (Wilbraham, Mass.), Brendan Kelly ’15 (New City, N.Y.), Cheyanne Viveiros ’14 (Riverside, R.I.), Christopher Pedraita ’13 (Glen Cove, N.Y.), and Sarah Dwyer ’13 (Long Beach, N.Y.), along with Kristine C. Goodwin, vice president for student affairs, and Rev. Justin Marie Brophy, O.P., assistant chaplain.

Rev. James Cuddy, O.P. ’98 gave the sermon.
