Father Smith Fellows Travel the World for Service, Scholarship

 

Seven Providence College juniors and seniors set out on journeys this summer that took them on academic pursuits to Oxford University and service tours to the Solomon Islands and Australia on Fr. Philip A. Smith, O.P., Student Fellowships for Study and Service Abroad.

Through the competitive fellowships, made possible through gifts by current and former trustees of the College, students travel to Catholic and Dominican sites around the world.

Emily Foster ’13 attended the summer meetings of the United Nations Council on Human Rights and the U.N. Council on Indigenous Peoples for the Dominicans for Justice and Peace in Geneva, Switzerland. Emily Foster ’13 says she was struck by the flags outside the Palace of Nations, which reminded her of “how interconnected we truly are.”
