Dr. Getachew earned an M.A. in Mathematics from Wesleyan University in 1987, and a Ph.D. in Management Science from Clemson University in 1992. Prior to coming to Providence College, Dr. Getachew has taught at the Undergraduate level for four years, and worked in industry for three.

Dr. Getachew has diverse research interests. In addition to being interested in the theoretical aspects of network optimization, he is also interested in management information systems, as they apply to organizational learning and knowledge management as well as in MIS pedagogy. In keeping with his liberal arts background, Dr. Getachew is also keenly interested in Philosophy, Poetry, Art and Music.
