The Pope Francis Interview

Dr. James F. Keating, associate professor of theology and program director of the humanities program at Providence College.

On Sept 19, America Magazine, a national Catholic weekly magazine, published an article highlighting an interview with Pope Francis conducted in August 2013. Pope Francis gave the interview to La Civilta Cattolica editor, Jesuit Father Antonio Spadaro, for the Italian magazine.

The article was, according to America Magazine editor Jesuit Father Matt Malone, personally reviewed and approved by Pope Francis himself prior to it being published. The article has also been published in other language versions of various other Jesuit publications.

In his interview, Pope Francis warned that the moral structure of the Church might "fall like a house of cards" if it remained unchanged. He said that the Church must "heal wounds" by showing more balance in its approach. Additionally, he also talked about his cultural preferences and his own limitations as a person in the interview.

Dr. James F. Keating can provide expert analysis on papal issues. To speak with him directly, please contact Chrissy Centazzo at (401)-340-5710, or
