UNDERGRADUATE MAJORS
This program serves as the core of the Mathematics Department. Its purpose is to prepare the student for entry into the quantitative professions as well as for graduate work in Mathematics. Required courses are supplement by a wide variety of electives in both the theoretical and applied areas. Tutorials, seminars, and individual research projects are available also. The curriculum is flexible, allowing the student to pursue special interests or goals. Further details: typical four year program
This program prepares the student for advanced study in computing or entry into the computing profession. Since the computing industry is expected to continue its rapid growth, an undergraduate program in this area must stress fundamentals and must provide training broad enough so as to avoid early obsolescence. Our curriculum, through a combination of Mathematics and Computer Science courses, gives the student the necessary theoretical as well as practical experience with computers. The primary purpose of this program is to equip the student to teach in a secondary school. Completion of the Teacher Preparation Program enables the student to be certified in Rhode Island and most other states. Students in this program must satisfy all requirements of the Mathematics concentration except that one of the Mathematics electives must be replaced by MTH 309 Geometry, and a second elective must be replaced by MTH 423 Mathematical Statistics I. In addition, students in this program must take the following Education courses: 201, 203, 301,401, 406, 416 and 422. Further details: typical four year program

The MAT in Mathematics at Providence College is a program rich and diverse in mathematical content and designed for the mathematics educator. Consistent with the recommendations of the National Research Council, the mathematics-computer science faculty at Providence College affirm that excellence in teaching requires a thorough preparation in mathematics and education. The MAT program will help provide this preparation by introducing the student to a variety of topics in both mathematics and mathematics education.
REQUIREMENTS
The MAT program in mathematics requires a minimum of 21 credits hours in mathematics and 9 credit hours in education. The required courses are ALGEBRAIC STRUCTURE I and II and MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS I and II. Additional mathematical courses may be selected from the following:
Course offerings are designed so that most students can select to complete the program within two years. Generally, at least six courses are offered yearly and faculty advisors are available to help students select courses. Also, applicants who do not satisfy the admission requirements may enroll in directed reading courses in preparation for the program. Reading courses are designed through consultation with the program director.
