Library Privileges for Visitors

Welcome to the Providence College Library Visitor Information page. Providence College has established an Acceptable Use Policy that provides guidelines and rules for the use and misuse of all campus technology resources. This policy is enforced and should be read in full and adhered to when utilizing campus technology resources. This policy is subject to change and should be reviewed often.  All visitors to the Phillips Memorial Library must comply with this policy. Failure to do so will result in the suspension of library privileges.

Patrons may be asked to display a valid picture ID to access Phillips Memorial Library computers. Visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times.

Visitor Categories:


Alumni: Alumni of Providence College are eligible for borrowing privileges.  Alumni Privileges include:

  • Borrow out up to 20 books at a time for about 1 month + 1 renewal
  • On-site access to ebooks and journals
  • Wireless network setup College

HELIN:  Current HELIN students, faculty and staff with a valid HELIN ID may borrow selected material.

On-Site PC Services for HELIN patrons​

CRIARL: Patrons with a valid membership card from a CRIARL institution may borrow selected material. 

Visiting Scholars or Graduate Students:  Visiting Scholars or graduate students may apply for library cards. At the discretion of the Library Director's office, cards are issued at the Phillips Memorial Library during College business hours (M-F, 8:30a-4:30p). A current ID from the home institution is required.

Members of the Clergy: Members of the clergy may apply for a permanent Special Borrower card. Cards are issued at the Phillips Memorial Library during College business hours (M-F, 8:30a-4:30p). A valid picture ID is required.

A Special Borrower Card entitles you to:

  •   Check out up to 20 books at a time for about 1 month
  •   Access electronic books and journals on-site only.

Undergraduate students: Undergraduate students from other academic institutions must present a current ID from their home institution.

High School Students: Area high school students are welcome to use the Providence College library for educational and research purposes.  Area teachers with large groups are strongly encouraged to arrange a tour or library instruction with a Research Librarian.

General Public: There is a select cluster of computers available for use by the general public on the main level of the library (near the Research Assistance Office).  Please see a staff member at the Circulation Desk or in the Research Hub Desk for assistance accessing a public computer. Visitors aged 18 or older are welcome to use the Providence College library for educational and research purposes. Community patrons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a guardian at all times. Read more about our Computer and Printer Use Policies.

Relatives of PC Faculty and Staff: The spouse and/or children of current Providence College faculty and staff may be issued library cards at no cost. The spouse and/or children must be accompanied by the PC ID holder when applying for the library card. Other relatives may visit the library while accompanied by the PC ID holder.
