Books

The Library uses the Library of Congress shelving arrangement.

To search the HELIN catalog using select LC Subject headings, use the specific term first followed by the term, French. For example, use, without the quotes, 'Arts, French' not 'French Arts' or 'Women poets, French' not 'French women poets'.

Additionally, if your searching for materials relating to a geographical area, follow the same format. For example, use, 'Lascaux cave, France' not 'France, Lascuax cave'. However, when searching for information on historical events, such as the French Revolution, the use of the term 'France' achieves better results. For example, use, 'France, History, Revolution' not 'French Revolution'.

For a listing of LC Subject headings, the library has a complete set of the Library of Congress Subject Headings available at the ready reference desk of the Information Station.
