Training Workshops

Training Workshops are offered to the Providence College community on various Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint,  SharePoint and Outlook. All workshops are hands-on and instructor driven. Current schedules are sent out to the campus via email, as well as updated on this site. Workshops can be designed and customized for departments based upon the needs of the staff.

To signup for a workshop, suggest a workshop, provide workshop feedback or request department-wide training, please use the form buttons on the left.

Purchase Requisition Open Labs

These labs are open to anyone who needs assistance with entering their Banner purchase requisitions online.  There is no need to register for the open labs, simply show up and someone will be available to offer you help as needed!

25LIVE for Requestors

 
This workshop is for those on campus who need to request academic and non-academic space using 25live. This session will cover how to login, create an event, add details for your event and select locations. Recommendations for setup and how events are processed will be discussed.  Learn how to search for events that you have requested.  We will take a look at how to find space availability and see what events are taking place across campus.

This workshop is for those on campus who own space and use 25live to schedule events in that space. This session will cover how to login, create an event, add details for your event and select your locations. We will look at the different options for assigning spaces you own versus spaces that need approval.  Learn how to search for events that you have requested.  We will take a look at how to find space availability and see what events are taking place across campus.

Email Organize and Declutter

 
Learn to use various Outlook automation tools to organize and declutter your email.  Run "clean-up" on your folders, set up rules and auto formatting to help you process your email.  Share your ideas on how you have managed to stay ahead of the constant email overload.

Excel I: Shortcuts and Functions

Download Excel I: Shortcuts and Functions Handout

Learn new shortcuts for moving and inserting data.   Use auto fill to quickly enter a series of numbers and dates.  Freeze your column & row headings to make data entry easier.  Learn ways to manipulate data including filtering and sorting.  Use print options to include headers and footers.

Excel Formulas

 
Work with formulas to manipulate data and calculate numbers. Use formulas to perform many different functions including adding logic (if, then, else), looking up matching values in a table to get corresponding text and joining cells.

Excel Macro Introduction

 
Learn how to automate repetive tasks using macros.  Use the record Macro function to record your keystrokes then edit the Macro to loop and continue to run until it reaches the last row.  Macros can be used to automatically apply formatting and manipulate data.

Word Advanced Functions

 
This workshop will show you how to control headers and footers using section breaks, how to create a table of contents and build an index.

OneNote

 
OneNote is a digital notebook which can be used on any Windows machine to help keep you organized.  OneNote can work in conjunction with other Office programs or be used as a separate notebook.  You can create multiple notebooks with sections and pages then upload documents, images, spreadsheet and links to store in your notebook.  OneNote can be used for collaboration projects and research.

Outlook Task Management

Need a way to keep track of all your tasks and emails that need your attention? Need help keeping track of all the tasks you need to get done? This workshop shows you how to manage all your tasks and emails using the task feature in Outlook. Configure Outlook to track all your work but only show you the current list that you need to work on. Use the task option to track projects and multi-step tasks.

Download Word Merge Handout

Create letters, labels and emails using Microsoft Word's merge function using Excel data. Learn how to format zip codes and dollar amounts for your merge output.
