Teaching and Learning with Technology
To see the current schedule of FacultyWorkshops being offered,
Instructional Technology Workshops for Faculty
Wednesday, May 22
Come to one, to some, to all – your choice!
10:00 – 10:30
What’s New in Office 2013 (Diane Smith-Wilks)
Microsoft Office 2013 will be on all
classroom, lab and library computers in the fall. Diane will demonstrate
some of the very useful upgrades, such as:
- previewing your notes while in PowerPoint “show” mode
- editing PDFs when you can’t find the Word original
- how Outlook can remind you that no, you didn’t actually attach that attachment…
before the email is sent
Location: Library LL 25
10:30 – 11:00
Sakai Upgrade: Fixing all those little things that drive you crazy
A new version of Sakai will be available in
early August -- it looks quite different and improves many of those
head-scratching “why does it do that?” features. The Sakai Help Team is
really excited for the changes, and we want you to be prepared for the
fall.
Location: Library LL 25
11:00 – 12:30
Doceri: The iPad’s Killer Teaching App
Seann Mulcahy of the Department of Chemistry
and Biochemistry will walk us through this amazing, FREE iPad app. As
the College installs Apple TVs in a variety of classrooms across the
campus, including the larger spaces in the Ruane Center for the
Humanities, Seann will show us how to use Doceri to harness the ability
to walk around the classroom and have students collaborate and then
share their work. iPads will be provided for hands-on learning (sadly,
you can’t keep it).
Location: Library LL 25
12:30 – 1:30
Lunch (in the CTE)
If you’re attending any of the workshops, please join us for a relaxing lunch.
Location: CTE Feinstein 304
1:30 – 2:30
Teaching with Technology Conundrums
Open discussion about technology and
learning. Want to create an assignment that asks students to make videos
but don’t know how to structure it? How about websites? Don’t know what
technology you or your students could use to make compelling,
interactive presentations? Just wondering what others are doing with
technology assignments? Come with your questions and leave, hopefully,
with less questions!
Location: CTE Feinstein 304
RSVP to itdp@providence.edu. Please include which workshop(s) and if you will be attending lunch.
