In May, 2004 Dr. Lauren Williams left the College to assume a new faculty position at Suffolk University. The program began a national search to fill her position and interviewed a number of candidates during the 2004-05 academic year. Students were invited to meet prospective candidates and attended public presentations by all applicants.

In the fall of 2004, the program welcomed Tim Fitzgerald as a special lecturer for courses in health care finance, health care strategic management, and aging and health. Mr. Fitzgerald brings an extensive background in health administration to the program; prior to joining our faculty, he was a Chief Operating Officer with the VA New England Health Care System and served as Director of Occupational Health at Landmark Medical Center. We're very excited to have such an experienced health care administrator join our faculty!

On October 13, 2004 the program welcomed back several recent graduates, including Maeve Dargush '03, Stephanie Graham '04, Derek Puleo '01, Lynn Squillace '03, Amy Van Amburgh '02, and Richard Zabbo '00 to share their experiences with current students in this semester's alumni career forum. The event drew a record crowd--more than 40 majors and prospective students attended the event, which featured brief presentations by alumni, opportunities for networking, and Anita's famous strawberry and chocolate brownie cheesecakes!

Dr. Hackey co-authored a paper with Marisa Zito '04 entitled "Policy Paradoxes of Cellular Phone Regulation" that was presented at the annual meeting of the Northeastern Political Science Association on November 11-12, 2004. Dr. Hackey also served as a discussant for a panel on public policy issues at the meeting.

In the Spring of 2005, the program is pleased to welcome back Kaitlyn Kenney '02 as a special lecturer for the program's jointly taught Senior Seminar. Kaitlyn recently finished a master's degree at Northeastern University, where she is working on her doctorate in health policy.

The Health Care Executives Club prepared its first viewbook of senior resumes for distribution to prospective employers and alumni during the spring semester of 2005.

The Health Policy and Management held its Spring Alumni Career Forum on April 12, 2005. The program welcomed back several graduates, including Kate Lafayette '02, Christina Iannolo '04, Ed Olivier '84, and Erin Smith '04. Thirty five students attended the session held in Slavin's "soft lounge" to hear program alums share their experiences with current students.

Dr. Hackey presented a paper on the cost crisis in health care to the annual meeting of the New York State Political Science Association in Binghamton, NY in April, 2005.
