For the third year in a row, two HPM students were selected to participate in the Health Career Connection's summer internship program in the Boston area during the summer of 2003. Nora Kilkelly '04 spent the summer as an intern in the Orthopedics Department at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she worked in billing and finance, scheduling surgeries, and shadowing the administrative director. Stephanie Graham '04 wrote that her HCC hospital internship at Newton-Wellsley Hospital "is going well. My preceptor has been great because he has set up numerous meetings for me to sit and do an informational interview from a variety of people, from medical equipment educators, to members of the finance department, to the C.O.O. This has been excellent because I have had a little taste of everything."
In June 2003, Dr. Williams presented a paper entitled "If trust matters, where is it? The neglected role of organizational trust in health care and in the student experience" at the annual meeting of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration in Nashville, TN.
Dr. Hackey presented a paper on "The Crisis of Caring in the U.S. Health Care System" at the annual meeting of the Northeastern Political Science Association held in Philadelphia, PA. In April 2004, Dr. Hackey presented a paper on the cost crisis in American health care to the annual meeting of the New York State Political Science Association in Binghamton, NY.
