Faculty in the Health Policy and Management Program at Providence College bring a broad range of perspectives into the classroom. Students will learn from both published scholars and experienced practitioners in the field. Faculty regularly seek to involve students in their ongoing research through collaborative learning exercises and projects. In addition, all of the faculty in the program have "real world" experience in either the public or private sectors, affording students direct access to the health care community beyond Providence College. Regardless of their background, however, faculty are committed to excellence in teaching. All members of the full-time faculty routinely employ new technologies such as the College's Angel course management software in their courses. Students regularly praise the accessibility of their faculty members and regard themselves as partners in a learning experience.
The program currently has two full-time faculty, and has recently completed a national search to fill a third tenure track faculty position. Our current faculty include:
Dr. Robert Hackey (PhD, Brown University, 1992), Professor of Health Policy and Management, has been a member of the PC faculty since 1999. Dr. Hackey is on sabbatical as a visiting scholar at the A. Alfred Taubman Center for Public Policy in the Spring of 2007.
Dr. Paul Pezza (PhD, University of Massachusetts-Amherst, 1988), Professor of Health Policy and Management, is the director of the HPM program and joined the faculty at Providence College in 1978.
Our newest faculty member will join the program in September 2007. The program recently received approval to conduct a national search for a fourth tenure track faculty member in the fall of 2007, to commence in the 2008-09 academic year. In addition, the program brings the expertise and experience of practicing health lawyers, nursing home administrators, and others into the classroom as part time faculty:
