The Health Policy and Management Program at Providence College has prepared students for challenging careers in the heatlh care industry since 1976.
Students in the major tend to emphasize one of three different concentrations within the field: health care management, health policy, and public health. The program's required coursework prepares students to assume entry level managerial positions with consulting firms. health insurers, hospitals, home health agencies, long term care facilities, and managed care organizations immediately after graduation. Students who choose to major in health care policy are well equipped to work as legislative aides for federal or state government agencies, legislatures, or industry thinktanks. Students who want to work in the public health arena may be involved in many different activities, including AIDS/STD control, cancer prevention, and wellness initiatives.
Each year, the College awards between 20-30 degrees in health policy and management. The size of the program offers an intimate and energetic atmosphere for students and encourages the development of close relationships among students and faculty.
On January 26, 2006, the program hosted its inaugural Providence College Health Policy Forum in Slavin '64 Hall. The forum featured a keynote address by Fay Rozovsky '73 on the topic of "Pay for Performance: Quality Improvement or Menacing Risk?"
