Scholarships for Service

Scholarships for Service: Student Civic Fellow Program is an AmeriCorps Education Award Only program that engages college students committed to service who serve a minimum of 300 hours. Students who complete the program earn an Education Award in the amount of $1,175.

Scholarship for Service (SFS) is administered by Rhode Island Campus Compact, through generous financial support from the RI Service Alliance, and involves institutions of higher education throughout the state, including Providence College. Member campuses in Rhode Island have a deep commitment to the value of service in education and to fulfilling their public trust by graduating people who are active participants in civic life. SFS runs both an Academic Year term and Summer term during the year where college students can serve their local community and annually recruits approximately 100 college students into service.

What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs that engage more than 70,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet critical needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment. AmeriCorps Education Award only programs are designed to add value to ongoing service initiatives through the Education Award and through additional support and training. The program expands opportunities for people to serve and brings new communities and sponsors together as partners in service. As AmeriCorps members, college students will each provide 300 hours of direct service to community based, non‐profit organizations.
