BY-LAWS
Faculty
Senate
PROVIDENCE COLLEGE

Article
I:
The rules contained in Robert's Rules of Order Revised shall
govern the Faculty Senate in all cases to which they are applicable,
and in which they are not inconsistent with the Constitution and By-Laws
of the Faculty Senate.
Article
II: Election
of Senate Officers
Section 1. Election of Senate officers is to be by secret ballot on
nominations from the floor until completed.
Section 2. Nominations and elections of each officer of the Senate
are to be held separately.
Section 3. The Senate can elect officers not provided for by the Constitution.
Section 4. All officers of the Senate shall hold office one year,
and shall be eligible for re-election.
Article
III: Duties
of the President
Early in the academic year, the President of the Faculty Senate shall
arrange a calendar of regular meetings of the Senate in consultation
with the proper officer of the Administration of the College. The
President of the Faculty Senate, at the last regular meeting of the
Senate, in the spring academic session, shall, with the approval of
the Senate, indicate the day and the time for the first convening
of the Faculty Senate in the next academic year.
The call for regular meetings, along with their agenda, shall be sent
to the members of the Faculty Senate at least five days before the
meetings. Minutes of the meetings shall be sent to the members within
fifteen days after the meetings. Publication of agenda does not, however,
preclude the introduction of other subjects for deliberation or decision.
The President of the Faculty Senate must refer all substantive items
of business to the appropriate committee upon receipt on the floor.
However, new business may be considered immediately and without referral
to the committee with approval of a majority of the Senate.
Article
IV: Committees
of the Faculty Senate
Section 1. The Senate shall create such standing and ad hoc
committees as it deems proper.
Section 2. Each standing committee shall consist of no less than three
members from among the elected personnel of the Senate. With the exception
that the Committee on the College Budget shall consist of no less
than five members, with at least one member chosen from each division

Section 3. The Standing Committees of the Faculty shall be as follows:

Committee on Departmental Affairs

Committee on Faculty Welfare

Committee on Faculty Status

Committee on Appeals

Committee on Elections

Committee on Constitutional Amendments and By-laws

Committee on the College Budget
Section 4. No Senator shall serve on more than two standing committees.
Section 5. The members of standing committees shall be appointed by
the President of the Senate with the approval of a majority of the
Senate.
Section 6. Each standing committee to be constituted shall elect its
own chairman.

V: Order
of Business
Section 1. The order of business shall be:

Reports of standing committees

Unfinished business

New business
Section 2. On the request of a Senator, any item can be recalled from
committee to the floor with the approval of a majority of the Senate.
Article
VI: A
roll call vote requested by any Senator must be taken and recorded.
Article
VII: The
By-laws of the Senate may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the Senate
with five days notice.

AMENDMENTS TO THE BY-LAWS
Article I: When
it is known to the Senate that one of its members will be unable to
attend Senate meetings for more than one semester, his or her seat shall
be declared vacant.
