Faculty Seminar 2010-2011

​​​​​​​​Last year, the faculty seminar on student engagement brought together 9 faculty members from across the disciplines to discuss ways of increasing student engagement in learning. They discussed “student engagement” in every sense of the term: how to run better discussions, how to give more interesting and interactive lectures, how to involve students in co-curricular experiences, and how to encourage more student research. Seminar leader Dr. Stephen Lynch, Director of the Honors Program said, “The most remarkable aspect of the seminar for me has been to listen to committed and passionate colleagues speak about effective teaching within their own disciplines.” Similarly, participant Dr. Fred Drogula added “by meeting together and taking time to seriously discuss the theories behind particular engagement strategies, the members of the seminar worked together to think of ways different disciplines might make use of new methods of student engagement.”
