Management major

“Instead of a history class where you would learn just the history then briefly touch on the culture, in Civ, we spend the same amount of time on the history, literature, philosophy, and theology of a specific culture. It provides a more detailed picture of that culture."

What is your favorite part about DWC?
My favorite part about Civ was the different lenses we would use to look at a specific subject. For example, one day we would be reading the Greek play Oedipus Rex, then the next day we would read some of Plato's philosophy. The day after that we would learn about the development of democracy and the creation of the Parthenon. Instead of a history class where you would learn just the history then briefly touch on the culture, in Civ, we spend the same amount of time on the history, literature, philosophy, and theology of a specific culture. It provides a more detailed picture of that culture.

If you could tell an incoming freshman anything about Civ, what would you say?
I would tell them to keep an open mind and don't be afraid of it. If you keep an open mind to what you can learn, I think you will be surprised and interested.
