students wearing red and blue shirts at the horizons retreat

The Horizons program supports multicultural students (freshmen to senior) in their matriculation through Providence College.  Horizons programming includes a weekend retreat in the Fall semester, as well as a yearlong mentoring program between first year students and upper class students.  It is our commitment that students are given the tools to navigate and acclimate to the campus culture while maintaining their identity and cultural values.

Goals and Objectives

  • To build relationships with peers
  • To develop cultural agility through intercultural interaction
  • To create a network of support for multicultural students at Providence College

Testimonials from Participants:

Emily Mora headshotEmily Mora, Class of 2019:
"Horizons is the retreat you want to partake in. Because of Horizons, I was able to start off my freshman year feeling prepared and most importantly, I was able to call the participants of the retreat my family. It warms my heart that even still today as a sophomore, we still reconnect as a family. Horizons honestly broadened my horizons in various aspects. "

Horace Robinson headshotHorace L. Robinson, Class of 2017:
"The Horizon's retreat gave me the confidence and strength to develop into my own person on Providence College's campus. Before Horizon's I was very secluded and stuck to the people I knew from high school. After Horizon's, I had the confidence to step out of my comfort zone and become the student leader and soon to be graduate I am today."

Kanyinsola Adedeji headshotKanyinsola Adedeji, Class of 2017:
"I truly believe that without Horizons I would not have made it through my first year at Providence College! It was tough & challenging but knowing that I had resources and people that I could rely on really helped me out a lot! And three years later, the bond is still there and I want to give back to the incoming class!"
