Philosophy
As at other leading private colleges, education abroad is an integral component of the undergraduate academic experience today at Providence College. Across all disciplines, we are striving to help students integrate what they learn on study abroad with their major and courses on campus. In sum, we want to produce graduates who will possess the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they will need to be competent and successful in their careers and personal lives. At the Center for International Studies, we see our mission then as providing all our students with the study abroad opportunities best suited to help them in this transformation.

Katherine holds a B.A. in East Asian Studies from Colby College and an M.A. in Intercultural Relations from Lesley University, and worked in California and the United Kingdom as a study abroad advisor before coming to Providence College. Katherine is responsible for advising students in the School of Arts & Sciences and the School for Professional Studies on study abroad opportunities, as well as both undergraduate and graduate international students and scholars on F-1 and J-1 visa and immigration issues. She was awarded the 2011 NAFSA: Association of International Educators "Rising Professional Award" in recognition of her demonstrated commitment to international education, and has presented at conferences throughout New England on issues relevant to both study abroad and international students. Katherine hopes all PC students take the opportunity to learn as much as possible about the world around them to attain global understanding and an appreciation of cultural differences.

Allie graduated from Providence College with a B.A. in English and a minor in Political Science in 2011 and studied abroad at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, during which time she developed an enthusiasm for international education. Upon return, she began working at the Providence College Center for International Studies as a Peer Advisor, promoting study abroad and advising students. Prior to returning to the CIS, Allie worked as a Travel Operations Coordinator at Education First and as a Study Abroad Coordinator at Northeastern University. Allie is responsible for advising students in the School of Business, as well as advising all students on short-term (summer and winter intersession) study abroad opportunities. She is currently completing her M.A. in Intercultural Relations from Lesley University, and is excited to be returning to Providence and working with PC students to explore the vast opportunities available in study abroad.

Prior to coming to the Center for International Studies, Denise worked for six years in the Off-Campus Housing office. With daughters who studied abroad in Australia and Ireland, Denise experienced first-hand what the entire process entails for students, to say nothing of the parental anxiety such an experience often generates. As a result, Denise is well qualified to ease the fears or concerns of students going on study abroad and those of their parents.
