Worship and Prayer

St. Dominic ChapelAs a Catholic and Dominican College, Providence College encourages its students, faculty, staff, and friends to worship God regularly and in doing so, to be transformed by God's grace. Indeed, it is only when we have been transformed by God that we have the ability to transform society. Prayer is thus essential if we are to fulfill our highest calling: to love God with all our mind, all our heart, and all our strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves.

St. Dominic Chapel

St. Dominic Chapel is the religious and spiritual heart of campus, and is open each day during the academic year from 7:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. for private prayer and devotion, as well as for Mass.

Dedicated in February 2001 and named for St. Dominic de Guzman, founder of the Dominican Order, it incorporates a number of Romanesque and specifically Dominican features including stained glass windows depicting the life of St. Dominic, the founding of the Order, and notable Dominican and American saints. The windows, Crucifix, and Stations of the Cross were designed by the artist Sylvia Nicolas. The organ, built by the Holtkamp Organ Company, has 31 stops, 39 ranks, and 2,289 pipes. The instrument is capable of producing sounds that range from majestic and powerful, to serene and meditative.

Additional Chapels and Oratories

In addition to St. Dominic Chapel, there is a Chapel in St. Thomas Aquinas Priory, and Oratories in Harkins Hall and St. Catherine of Siena Hall for private prayer.
