Director's Welcome

kellypatrick.jpgWhat an exciting time for the Providence College School of Business! This summer we will welcomed our new dean, Dr. Sylvia Maxfield, who is joining us from Simmons College. We are delighted that she is our new dean and look forward to future success under her leadership.

Planning continues on a new building for the School of Business. Our School of Business Building Committee has done an outstanding job in identifying our needs for the state-of-the-art facility that will educate future generations of business students. If all goes according to schedule, we hope to open the building for the fall 2014 semester.

This facility will contribute to our mission of providing a values-based business education, integrated with the liberal arts and grounded in the Catholic Dominican tradition. A recently updated College Core Curriculum will assist us in developing successful graduates who will make positive contributions to business and society.

We also are excited about our students--their learning and their achievements. Very talented students are interested in meeting the challenges of our business program and achieving excellence. A team of our accountancy students recently won a national case competition sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers, one of “Big 4” accounting firms. We also have more business students studying abroad than ever before. They return with a perspective that is valuable in today’s global economy.

We remain grateful for the support received from our alumni and other business partners, including those who support our students with career advice, internships and employment opportunities. In particular, our Business Advisory Council has done a tremendous job in supporting our students and programs.

I wish you all the best during this summer and welcome your comments and questions.
