Acknowledgements

I am indebted to many people in both America and Cambodia for making THE SPIRIT OF CAMBODIA...a tribute a reality. Over the last few years, both Arn Chorn-Pond and Samnang Yong have helped make me aware of contemporary arts in Cambodia and in the Cambodian diaspora. Providence College has been continually supportive, and in 2001 awarded me a CAFR grant to study first-hand the arts in Cambodia. All of the artists have been most gracious in creating works for the exhibitions, and I thank them for taking part in such a ground-breaking venture. People in Cambodia who helped me during my stay and over the past year include: Domnang Pin, Molly McKinney, Matt McKinney, Khem Chantha, Han Pin, and Pin Sisovann. In America, Venerable Ros Mey, Abbot of Wat Thormikaram, has kindly given his blessing to this program which honors his people., and Reverend Phillip Smith, O.P., President of Providence College, has shown vision and an open heart by allowing the College to sponsor these events. The Providence College faculty, staff and students have contributed most generously to the project, and specialists in various fields have given much support. I would especially like to thank Richard Elkington for his expert help in technology, as well as John Schlinke, Peter Marinucci, Mary McFadden and Emily Heininger. The students in my Museum Studies Course gave thoughtful suggestions for the exhibition: Christine Galente, Elizabeth Gaudino, Jeanne Kleinberg, Mark Mazzenga, Michela Paganelli, Darrell Smith and Jennifer Watson. Others who have been most generous with their time and expertise include Tom Norton, Lynn Curtis, Samkhann Khoeun, Janice Pokorski, Brian Chen and Robert LeComte of Riverside Art. I thank also Anne Rocheleau, Director of the Rhode Island Foundation Gallery, for graciously hosting the diaspora exhibition.
