In 2000, artist Holly Ewald invited Samnang Yong to work with her and Rhode Island Cambodians on an arts project. Using collage, Holly and Samnang helped first and second generation Cambodians to “give voice to, honor, respect and protect dreams, stories, sense of self and family history.” Memories and reflections of individuals or families were clarified in handmade accordion books.

In her report to The Rhode Island State Council of the Arts, which funded the project, Holly states, “As an artist I enjoy collaboration, it is an opportunity to be provoked, challenged and/or confirmed and often with a new understanding gleaned. I thank the Cambodian families we worked with for sharing their homes and spirits and Samnang Yong for his support and esthetic sensibilities.”
