ART 171, Photography I, 6 hours, 3 credits (Fine Arts CORE)
An introduction to black/white photography. The course will include processing the negative and print, darkroom technique, camera, optics, composition, and critiques of student work. The student should have access to a 35mm camera with an adjustable aperture and shutter and lens.

ART 272, Photography II, 6 hours, 3 credits (Required of all Photography Majors)
A continuation of Photography I. The intermediate student is encouraged to develop his/her own style through a series of technique-oriented projects. The class is structured around weekly critiques of student work. Prerequisite: ART 171 or permission of instructor.

ART 273, Color Photography, 6 hours, 3 credits (Required of all Photography Majors)
An introduction to color photography. The student will also be required to produce a high level of design and finish. Prerequisite: ART 172 or permission of instructor.

ART 374, Photography IV, 6 hours, 3 credits
An advanced color and black/white course. Students will continue to perfect their color skills, but will also be introduced to experimental color and black/white projects structured to expand photography beyond the continuous tone image. Prerequisite: ART 272 and ART 273.

ART 375, The View Camera, 6 hours, 3 credits
(Required of all Photography Majors) An introduction to large format photography. The course is structured around the 4x5 view camera, with projects in portraiture, still-life, and architectural photography. Prerequisite: ART 272.

ART 476, Photography VI, 6 hours, 3 credits
Further work in black and white or color; this class will be based upon student needs. Prerequisite: ART 272, ART 375.

ART 490, Independent Study, 6 hours, 3 credits
A project oriented studio course, prepared by student and advisor to explore an area not covered by courses within the studio program. By consent of chariperson only.

ART 497, Photo Thesis, 6 hours, 3 credits (Required of all Photo majors.)
Required of all studio majors. Production of a mature body of work in preparation for the senior thesis exhibition. This course is taken in the second semester of the senior year. Prerequisites: ART 272, ART 273 and ART 375.
