The wait is over: Concannon Fitness Center opens!
Just 15 months after groundbreaking, the 23,000-square-foot Concannon Fitness Center opened on September 4. The two-level, state-of-the-art facility has more than three times the amount of workout space than previously existed and transforms the landscape of the Main Campus. It features more than 160 freestanding pieces of equipment. [more]

MacKay leading new PC Parent Program
Longtime PC student services administrator Jacqueline F. Kiernan MacKay has begun serving as the College’s first director of parent programs. She said the PC Parent Program is designed to help parents better understand the college experience and to support them in fostering their student’s growth and development. [more]

Two development leaders named in advancement
The Office of Institutional Advancement has appointed Lisa M. Sabatini Bousquet ’86 as assistant vice president for development and Seth M. Klaiman as director of major gifts. Bousquet will provide strategic direction and manage the College’s development team. Klaiman will manage the major gifts team in soliciting leadership gifts. [more]

O’Connell Scholarship will benefit students' medical careers
The newly established Dr. Charles G. O’Connell ’56 Scholarship Fund honors an obstetrician and gynecologist who delivered over 6,000 children and who was equally as tireless as a supporter of PC. The endowed scholarship in the late Dr. O’Connell’s name will assist students wishing to pursue a career in medicine. [more]

Gabriel endows scholarship to thank parents, PC
Everett Gabriel ’71 has created an endowed scholarship fund to assist students who have lost a parent or who have a parent who is disabled. The Gabriel Family Scholarship Fund honors his mother and late father. Gabriel has been a lifelong supporter of the College, both financially and through volunteer work. [more]

Graduates to honor Elkington with photography exhibit
The current works of alumni who were students of Richard N. Elkington will comprise a tribute exhibit to the PC associate professor of photography this fall. The photography exhibit, 35 Years of Vision: The Students of Richard N. Elkington, will run from October 18 to December 6 in the Reilly Art Gallery of the Smith Center for the Arts. It will showcase the works of graduates who have maintained a passion for photography and fine arts through their careers and vocations. For a listing of exhibiting photographers, click here.

Joe Vaghi ’42D to be featured in PBS series
LCDR Joseph P. Vaghi, Jr. USNR (Ret.) ’42D will appear in The War, a seven-part documentary on World War II directed and produced by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick. The series will premiere on TV’s Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) on September 23. The documentary focuses on the experiences during the war years of citizens from four representative American towns. An interview with Vaghi, who served as a beachmaster during the Normandy invasion in World War II, will air in Episode 4 on September 26. For more on the series, click here. Fall sports action heats up for Friars
The season is in full swing for the Friars’ seven fall varsity athletics teams. In early-season highlights, the women’s volleyball team has won three matches, and the field hockey team has two wins. Meanwhile, the men’s basketball team compiled a 3-3 record in a recent preseason trip to Italy. For the latest in Friar sports, go to www.friars.com.

• Nineteen new, full-time faculty members, representing 15 disciplines, are teaching at the College as the 2007-08 academic year gets under way.
• The recent 7th annual Summer Vocal Institute sponsored by the Department of Music hosted a record 92 high school students, eclipsing the previous record of 84 students.
