Father Shanley to be installed on Inaugural Weekend
The installation of Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P. '80 as the College's 12th president will take place on Friday, September 30. It will be the first event of a two-day Inaugural Weekend celebration. The weekend theme is "Sacred Truths, Transformed Lives, and Signs of the Times." Inaugural Weekend festivities, which are being coordinated by a 16-member committee, include the Inaugural Ball, the Inaugural Convocation, four symposia, a Mass, and a student barbecue. [more]

Institutional advancement office moves into Martin Hall
The Office of Institutional Advancement has expanded its operations to the newly renovated Martin Hall on the Main Campus. Staff members in alumni relations and operations, as well as the vice president and his executive assistant, moved into the historic, three-story, stone building this summer. Development officers and staff members remain in Harkins Hall. [more]

Four Dominicans among 27 new faculty members
Twenty-seven new, full-time faculty members--representing 12 disciplines--have been appointed to teach at Providence College as the 2005-06 academic year gets under way on Tuesday, September 6. The 27 include College President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P. '80, who is a professor of philosophy. Three other Dominican priests also join the faculty. [more]

Borkoski to lead alumni Board of Governors
Charles M. Borkoski '71 of Barrington, R.I. [right], vice president of marketing for McLaughlin & Moran, Inc., of Cranston, R.I., will serve as the president of the Providence College Alumni Association Board of Governors for the 2005-06 academic year. Other board members--who were elected by active members of the alumni association in a national mail-in ballot--are Kathleen A. Ryan, Esq. '87, vice president; Ken Richardson '75, treasurer; and COL Herbert R. Waters III '79, secretary. [more]

Renovations breathe new life into classrooms
Eight classrooms in two campus buildings are being transformed into state-of-the-art facilities under PC's "Classroom Renovations Project." The overhauls include new paint, floors, furniture, and the most current technology. The rooms should be ready for the start of the fall 2005 semester. The cost for the renovation of the eight rooms is estimated at approximately $325,000 and is being supported through the Office of Institutional Advancement's Reunion Class Giving Program. [more]

Tim Army '85, Jim McGirr named head coaches
Former PC All-American Tim Army '85 [right] is returning to his alma mater as the new head coach of the men's hockey team. An assistant coach with the Friars from 1987-93, Army brings with him a dozen years of NHL and AHL coaching experience, including the last three as the head coach of the Portland Pirates of the AHL. Army joins Jim McGirr, who will direct the women's soccer team, as the two new head coaches appointed this summer at the College. [more]

e-newsPC earns "Best E-mail Newsletter" nomination
e-newsPC, which debuted in February 2005, was nominated for the "Best E-mail Newsletter" award in the 2005 Harris Connect Achievement Awards competition. PC's electronic newsletter was one of 25 nominated by representatives of Harris Internet Services among Harris' client base of more than 300 schools. Among other schools nominated were St. John's, Syracuse, and Villanova from the BIG EAST Conference, as well as Tufts University, The Citadel, and the Rhode Island School of Design. The award recognizes e-newsletters with the best presentation of graphics and content.

On June 2-4, 2006, all alumni whose classes end in a "1" or "6" are invited back to the campus to celebrate their anniversaries during Reunion Weekend 2006. Class committees are forming now. Thomas Blau, O.P., who was appointed as the College's new chaplain on July 1.
