U.S. Sen. Dodd to speak at PC on Iraq war
U.S. Sen. Christopher J. Dodd,
D-Conn. '66 & '83Hon. will return to his
alma mater on October 12 to present an address on the
war in Iraq. Connecticut's senior U.S. senator,
Dodd also will meet with students and faculty members
in the Department of Political Science. His speech is
open to the College community. [more]
New Catholic/Dominican Center dedicated
The much-anticipated Center for
Catholic and Dominican Studies was dedicated and blessed
on September 13. Located in the former Aquinas Chapel,
the center will serve as a place of intellectual exploration
and dialogue for students, faculty, staff, and alumni. [more]
Deasy's 50-year career hailed at convocation
Robert
L. Deasy '53, a PC faculty member for 50 years, grabbed the spotlight—and
a standing ovation—at Academic Convocation. The
associate professor of history and scholar in U.S. presidential
elections and politics was presented the Distinguished
Faculty Service Award. [more]
The Class of 2010 makes its mark
Led
by increases in Liberal Arts Honors Program enrollees
and in the percentage of all students of color, the Class
of 2010 is off to an impressive start. The class numbers
1,033 students, many of whom have demonstrated a propensity
for community service and involvement in activities like
the Urban Action program. [more]
Alumni Admission Associates recruiting volunteers
The Office of Admission is
recruiting alumni to represent PC at college fairs
in the areas where they live. Participants in the
Alumni Admission Associates program are asked to
share their PC story and general information about
the school with high school students. Alumni are
provided all the necessary material. [more]
New theatre scholarship fund honors Garrity
An
endowed scholarship fund for theatre majors has been
established in honor of John P. Garrity, Jr. '73, associate professor
of theatre arts and managing director of theatre.
The John Patrick Garrity, Jr. '73 Theatre Scholarship
Fund has been created through the efforts of James
M. Hughes, Esq. '73 and Christine Mahoney Hughes '75,
long-time friends of Garrity. [more]
Final Four memories: Gala planned for '87 Friars
Do
you remember the magical ride of the 1987 Friar men's
basketball team to the NCAA Final Four? The College
will host a special 20th anniversary celebration next May, with 1987
Head Coach Rick Pitino and standout guard
Billy Donovan '87 heading the list of Friar

Four athletics teams ranked nationally
PC’s
women's cross country (11th), field hockey
(12th), men's cross country (18th), and men's
soccer (23rd) teams all hold spots in the

Online Providence Friar auction site debuts
Calling all Friar athletics memorabilia buffs! Would you like to own a representative
piece of PC sports history and support student-athletes and varsity athletics
programs at the same time? The Department of Athletics recently established the
online Providence Friar auction site, which allows you to bid on selected memorabilia
from yesteryear, such as game-worn jerseys and photos of Friar greats. For more,
