Retiring faculty members honored at celebration
Fifteen faculty members—including five alumni—with 577 years of service to the College were honored recently at a retirement celebration in Slavin Center '64 Hall. Father Shanley reflects on pope's message
College President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P. '80 was among the hundreds who attended a special address on Catholic education by Pope Benedict XVI during his first visit to the United States in April. Terming the experience "moving and humbling," Father Shanley authored a reflection on the pope's message and its relevance to PC in the May 1, 2008, edition of The Providence Journal. To read an adaptation of the reflection, click here.

Reconnect, reminisce, relax at Reunion Weekend 2008
There's still time for graduates of classes ending in '3 or '8 to register and join in the fun and camaraderie of Reunion Weekend 2008 on May 30 to June 1. Activities will include class dinners and receptions, a "New England Clambake and Country BBQ," and "An Evening Under the Stars" dinner dance, among many other events. For more, including the schedule and registration, click here.

Cabernet Cabaret to assist students in need
Tickets and sponsorship opportunities remain available for Cabernet Cabaret: Third Annual Wine Tasting on June 13. The wine-tasting and auction fund-raiser will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Atrium of the Concannon Fitness Center. Proceeds will benefit the Providence College National Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, a need-based scholarship fund. For more information, including tickets, sponsorship opportunities, and on-line registration, click here.

Consider making a transforming gift to the PC Fund
With less than two months remaining in the fiscal year, alumni are asked to consider making a tax-deductible gift to the Providence College Fund. Donations enable the College to fund critical initiatives such as academic programs, financial aid, athletics, technology, classroom and other infrastructure improvements, and much more. For more on the Providence College Fund or to donate online, click here or contact Felicia Greene, assistant director of annual giving in the Office of Institutional Advancement, at 401-865-2408 or at fgreene1@providence.edu.

Sailing Team races toward goal for new fleet
The Providence College Sailing Team raised more than $5,000 during a regatta and banquet on its recent Alumni Weekend. The proceeds further supported the team's efforts to reach its goal of $70,000 to buy a new fleet of boats. The fundraising was bolstered earlier this year by a significant gift from one of the program's founding members, Martin Donnelly '51. [more]
