Fitness center construction surpasses two-thirds mark
Construction
of the new two-level fitness center on campus is more than two-thirds
complete, and the College is on schedule to meet a projected August
7 opening. Highlights of recent work that has been accomplished are
the installation of exterior glass on the facade of the fitness center
and
electrical and other utilities work. [more]

Reunion
Weekend 2007—for all classes ending in a ’2 or a ’7—is
less than a month away! A fun and exciting weekend of get-togethers
and camaraderie is guaranteed, so please consider joining us! Registrations

Alumni welcome to participate in commencement
Alumni
are cordially invited to walk as a group and be seated together at
the College’s
Commencement Exercises on May 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dunkin’ Donuts
Center. Academic gowns are not required. Registrations will be accepted
until May 13. To register and for arrival instructions, call the Office

Impact of President’s Circle gifts underscored at event
Members
of the President’s Circle—donors who have made gifts of
$1,000 or more to the College—were thanked for their generosity
at a campus reception on April 14. Attendees learned that these gifts,
which this year total $5.75 million to date, support the Annual Fund,
scholarships, athletics, and reunion classes. [more]
Larranaga joins national alumni awards honorees
Jim
Larranaga ’71, head coach of the George Mason University men’s
basketball team, will join five other recipients as they are honored
by the Providence College National Alumni Association on June 23. Larranaga
will
receive the “Personal Achievement Award” during the awards presentation,
in honor of exceptional career accomplishments. [more]
Memorial Mass planned for Dr. Rodney K. Delasanta ’53
Alumni
are invited to celebrate the life and legacy of the late Dr. Rodney
K. Delasanta ’53
at a Mass in his memory on May 8 at 4:30 p.m. in St. Dominic Chapel
on campus. College President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P. ’80 will be
the principal celebrant and homilist. A professor of English and a
former longtime director
of the Liberal Arts Honors Program, Dr. Delasanta died on April 10.
He taught at PC for 46 years.
An invitation to support Virginia Tech
PC’s
Campus Ministry is taking part in a nationwide outreach to send condolences
and letters of comfort and support to Virginia Tech University in the aftermath
of last month’s tragedy. Among the victims was Daniel O’Neil, the
son of William F. O’Neil ’71, a former assistant vice president
in the College’s Office of Institutional Advancement, and Jeanne Dube
’82G, and the brother of Erin E. O’Neil ’04. Cards, notes,
and letters may be sent until May 20 to PC’s Office of the Chaplain/Campus
Ministry, 549 River Ave., Providence, RI, 02918-0001. Please indicate “Virginia
Tech” on the envelope.
Tickets
available for 1987 Final Four team VIP Reception
While
tickets for the 20th anniversary gala on May 12 for the 1987 Friars’ NCAA
Final Four men’s basketball team are sold out, there still is an opportunity
to attend a VIP Reception with team members and other celebrities on
May 11. The reception will be from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. at the Westin Hotel
in Providence. There will be beverages and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets cost
$1,000 per person, and proceeds will benefit the Friar Athletic Fund.

Friar teams eye championship opportunities
The
Friars’ lacrosse team qualified for the post-season Metro Atlantic
Athletic Conference Championship Tournament, and the men’s and women’s
outdoor track teams will participate in the BIG EAST Championship
on May 5-6. In addition, the men’s basketball team and several other
Friar squads have received commitment letters from student-athletes

• The College’s Annual Fund was within 6 percent of its goal
of $2.3 million for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2007, as of the
time this month’s e-newsPC was distributed. For more on the Annual
Fund, click here.
• Wireless
networking equipment is now installed in 18 locations across the campus,
including the Alumni Hall Food Court, Raymond Dining Hall, and several
study and residential facility lounges.
