Rev. John S. Peterson, O.P. '57 named alumni chaplain
College President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P. '80 has appointed Rev. John S. Peterson, O.P. '57 as national chaplain of the Providence College Alumni Association. Father Peterson has served PC for more than 35 years and currently is assistant dean of admission and coordinator of the Alumni/ae Admission Associates Program. [more]

College to construct two-level fitness center
Construction is expected to begin later this spring on a 23,000-square-foot fitness center addition to the Peterson Recreation Center and Alumni Hall. Designed for use by the general student body, student-athletes, faculty, and staff, the fitness center will be located on two levels and feature a three-story glass atrium. It is expected to open by the beginning of the fall 2007 semester. [more]

Anticipation builds for Commencement Exercises
The 2005-06 academic year will reach a climax on Sunday, May 21, when the College conducts its Eighty-Eighth Commencement Exercises. More than 1,000 members of the Class of 2006 will be awarded diplomas. The commencement address will be presented by actor John O'Hurley '76. Alumni are welcome to march in the procession. [more]

John W. and Helen F. Moroney Scholarship Fund created
The John W. and Helen F. Moroney Scholarship Fund was established at the College in April to benefit students who are majoring in one of the business concentrations. The fund was established by Helen Moroney in memory of her husband, John '27, who taught business at PC for 35 years before retiring in 1966. [more]

Reunion classes asked to support classroom renovations
As Reunion Weekend 2006 approaches, members of classes ending in a '1 or a '6 are being asked to consider contributing to the Reunion Class Giving Program for the purpose of supporting the Classroom Renovation Project. During the summer of 2005, eight classrooms were renovated through donations from reunion classes for that year. [more]

Alumni input sought for College Buzz Book survey
The College requests your assistance in taking an online survey to help prospective college students evaluate their educational options and make informed education and career decisions. Information from the survey about your PC experiences is being collected for the third edition of the College Buzz Book, a guide which profiles 300 prominent higher-education institutions. [more]

Piano Sale could benefit you--and PC
Are you in the market for a piano or would you like to buy one for the College's Department of Music? In either case, you may want to "key in" on the 7th annual Piano Sale at PC on the weekend of May 26-28. Alumni are being offered sharply discounted sales prices on new or used pianos. A variety of piano styles from multiple manufacturers, including Kawai, will be available. [more]

Lacrosse, softball teams qualify for tournaments
PC's men's lacrosse team and its softball team are heading for postseason tournament competition. The lacrosse team will play in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals on Friday, May 5, while the softball team has qualified for the eight-team BIG EAST Tournament that begins on Thursday, May 11. • PC eighth-year Head Coach Chris Burdick was selected as U.S. Lacrosse Men's Coach of the Week for the week ending April 30. His Friars posted a 2-0 record during the week, including clinching a tie for the regular-season championship of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
