O'Hurley delivers "extraordinary" remarks to grads
Actor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist John O'Hurley '76 implored graduates of the Class of 2006 to "live an extraordinary life" in his commencement address during PC's Commencement Exercises on May 21. The College awarded 1,129 diplomas, including honorary degrees to O'Hurley and four other distinguished individuals.

Groundbreaking scheduled for fitness center
Workers
cleared trees and brush and erected a fence in preparation for the official
start of construction of the College's new fitness center. Groundbreaking
ceremonies were scheduled for Friday, June 2. The 23,000-square-foot structure
will be added onto the east side of the Peterson Recreation Center and

Women's ice hockey receives $380,000 boost
Through the generosity of alumni and the fundraising efforts of the Department of Athletics, PC's nationally renowned women's ice hockey program recently received $380,000 in support. Michael A. Ruane '71 (right), chair of the College's Board of Trustees, donated $210,000 to support two new scholarships, while the Honorable William C. Leary '60, a former president of the PC Alumni Association, and his wife, Emily, have donated $100,000 to renovate the team's locker room in Schneider Arena. The gifts support $70,000 that was raised by the athletics department toward one of the new scholarships.

Thomas F. Tierney '32 bequeaths $435,000 to PC
The late Thomas F. Tierney '32, who believed strongly in the merits of a liberal arts education, recently bequeathed $435,000 to his alma mater. Mr. Tierney was a highly respected educator who taught for 43 years in the Pawtucket, R.I., public school system.

Fairbrother Scholarship Fund established
On the heels of establishing an endowed scholarship fund in memory of her husband, Helen F. Moroney of Burrillville, R.I., has established a second fund. The James, John and Edward Fairbrother Scholarship Fund is dedicated in memory of her three brothers, who all graduated from PC, as well as in honor of Edward's sons Peter W. Fairbrother '81 and John Fairbrother '94. [more]
The Annual Fund needs your generosity
There
still is time to contribute to the College's pivotal Annual Fund for this
fiscal year. The fund provides important operational revenue to support PC
in numerous areas, including financial aid, faculty salaries, technology,
and facilities upkeep. This year's goal is $2.6 million. click [more]
Donors, recipients meet at scholarship brunch
Receipt of a scholarship to attend PC may be announced by a letter in the mail, but at the Fifth Annual Scholarship Brunch, held on April 23, students got to meet the faces behind the dollars that support their education. The event also allowed the College to thank the donors for their generosity.

Farley becomes first PC lacrosse All-American
Midfielder Michael Farley '06 (Westfield, N.J.) carved an elite spot in PC's men's lacrosse record book by becoming the first Friar in program history to receive All-America recognition. Farley was chosen to the 2006 U.S.I.L.A. Division I Men's Lacrosse Honorable Mention Team on May 28. [more]
