College earns award for Martin Hall restoration
The College has won a prestigious award from the Providence Preservation Society for its restoration of Martin Hall, which was built in the 1850s. The home of alumni and the Office of Institutional Advancement, Martin Hall is cited as a historic building that has been "creatively adapted" for new use. [more]

Friar coaching legends Mullaney, Gavitt honored
The late Joe Mullaney '65Hon. & '98Hon. and Dave Gavitt '89Hon. (right) were honored on January 6 for their contributions as PC's two greatest men's basketball coaches. In ceremonies on the night PC hosted Seton Hall, the College dedicated the playing surface at the Dunkin' Donuts Center as "Dave Gavitt Court" and unveiled two banners recognizing the coaching accomplishments of Mullaney and Gavitt. Sanfords start scholarship fund for learning disabled
A former PC Alumni Association president and his wife have endowed a scholarship fund to assist College students with learning disabilities. The Stephen P. and Jill J. Sanford Family Scholarship Fund will primarily benefit juniors and seniors. Stephen, who graduated in 1977, and Jill have two children with learning disabilities. [more]

President to lead PC group to the Sunshine State
College President Brian J. Shanley, O.P. '80 and three other administrators will travel to Florida in late February to meet and greet the Sunshine State's active alumni community. The trip will include three receptions - in Jupiter, Tampa, and Naples - and a number of private luncheons and dinners. [more]

Pitino returning for 1987 NCAA Final Four team gala
Rick Pitino, the head coach of the 1987 PC men's basketball team that advanced to the NCAA Final Four, will join former coaches and players from that squad in attending the special 20th anniversary gala on May 12. Now the coach at the University of Louisville, Pitino will join the College community and scores of other "Friar fanatics" at the event at the Rhode Island Convention Center. [more]

The College's Alumni Online Community site has a new look and a new home that places this invaluable resource where it belongs - within the PC Web site and at the heart of the alumni pages. With this new location, it will now be easier for alumni to access all that the PC Web site has to offer. See for yourself by clicking here.

Men's, women's basketball teams boast 12 wins each
Led by the men's (12-3 overall, 2-0 in BIG EAST Conference play) and women's (12-4, 2-1) basketball teams, the winter athletics season is proving to be a thrilling one at PC. In fact, both basketball teams recently defeated nationally 15th-ranked teams on back-to-back nights. For the latest on the basketball teams as well as the Friars' men's and women's ice hockey, swimming and diving, and indoor track teams, click on www.friars.com.

• Catherine Bove '09 (Cincinnati, Ohio) of the women's basketball team and men's basketball player Herbert Hill '07 (Kinston, N.C.) each were named BIG EAST Players of the Week on January 8, while Sonny Watrous '07 (Albuquerque, N.M.) was chosen Women's HOCKEY EAST Player of the Week on January 9.
• Spring Recess at the College will take place from March 3-11, while Easter Recess will run from April 5-9.
