Core Curriculum review planning under way
A seven-member committee has begun to plan the review of the College's Core Curriculum, with a goal to present recommendations in the spring of 2007. Dr. William E. Hudson, professor of political science and chair of the Core Curriculum Review Committee, has met with committee members to discuss "planning how to plan." He said meetings in the early part of the spring 2006 semester will focus on the review criteria and process, as well as the formation of subcommittees. [more]

Outreach nets $34,000-plus for Katrina
Members of the College community contributed approximately $34,600 to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina through a series of relief efforts during the fall 2005 semester. The money, which was donated to Catholic Charities USA, was raised primarily through special collections at weekend Masses, a concert, and sales of T-shirts. "The College community really came through and showed great charity through their donations," said Rev. Thomas Blau, O.P., College chaplain. [more]

Did you know?
• Approximately 80% of the students who attend PC identify themselves as Catholic.
• Chaka Daley '96, who directed the Friars' men's soccer team to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and a record of 7-4-9 this past fall, is a candidate for National Coach of the Year after being named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division I New England Coach of the Year last month.
• We got a little carried away when we stated in last month's issue that PC ranks first among Rhode Island higher-education institutions in the number of alumni employed by Fidelity Investments. Fidelity employs 170 PC graduates, which is one of the highest rates for Rhode Island schools.
