This year, in the midst of the 800th anniversary of the Order of Preachers, we are proud to honor the Providence College Dominican Community with the Black & White Award. The fathers, brothers, and sisters who have been called to Providence since the College’s founding in 1917 have enriched the academic and spiritual lives of generations of students. Their distinctive approach to intellectual inquiry and teaching, and preaching for the salvation of souls, defines the PC experience.
Providence College is the only institution of its kind in the world that is founded and sponsored by Dominican friars. Harkins Hall opened its doors with nine Dominicans in residence. Today, 39 friars call PC home. They continue to inspire, challenge, and engage the entire community, and their vision will lead the College into a vibrant second century.
