Friar 5K FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Where should I park?

Parking is limited on race day.  We ask that you arrive early and enter through our newly constructed Huxley Avenue, gates accessible via Admiral St.  Once on campus, guests can park in the Anderson Stadium garage. Parking is also accessible in the lot off Wardlaw Avenue behind Alumni Hall. Runners should then make their way to Harkins Hall for check-in.

When do I pick up my bib number and packet?

You can pick up your packet on Friday, Sept. 15 from 4:30 - 7 p.m. in McPhail's, during a pasta pre-race dinner available to all registered runners, food sponsored by Federal Hill Pizza; or you can pick up your packet the morning of the race starting at 8 a.m. in Harkins Hall.

Can I sign up on race day?

Yes, online registration will close at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14.  Guests can register at both packet pick-up locations onsite but the price increases to $25 for PC students and children under 18 and $35 for everyone else.

Is there a bag check?

Yes, we offer a bag check and will have personal items closely monitored during the race. Bag check is located in a first-floor classroom in Harkins Hall and will close at 11:30 a.m.

Is there a place to shower or change on campus?

The men's and women's locker rooms in the Peterson Recreation Center are available for use by any race participants. Please tell the desk attendant you are a Friar 5K registrant.

What are the age categories?

Awards are presented to the top overall man and woman. First, second and third place for both men and women will also be awarded in all seven age groups: 18 and under, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over.

What is going on after the race?

Immediately after the race our annual FanFest will kick off. Co-sponsored by the Providence College Athletics Department, FanFest includes kids' activities, vendors, autographs by our men's basketball team, and more happening right on Slavin Lawn.  FanFest runs until noon.

What if it rains?

The Friar 5K race will continue rain or shine. In the case of inclement weather, FanFest activities will be underneath a tent on the Slavin lawn.

Do I need cash or my ID?

Runners will be asked to present an ID at check-in.  Those who are 21+ will receive bracelets to ensure access to the post-race exclusive race finisher beer garden, sponsored by the Guild.
